When moving immense tonnages of loose bulk material—like coal, iron ore, crushed stone, or grain—a flat belt simply will not suffice. Troughing conveyors solve this by utilizing specialized idler sets (typically 3 or 5 rollers) angled at 20°, 35°, or 45°. This configuration forces the flexible rubber belt into a "U" or "V" shape, drastically increasing the cross-sectional load area.
